I’m no longer sitting in a room, 2021

This work pays tribute to sound art pioneer Alvin Lucier, which is inspired by his notable piece ‘I’m sitting in a room’ that premiered in 1970.

What is death? Is death simply a mean of alternation in state? Is death a surrender of the ego? Is death the absence of the soul? Is death unconscious? Can death be perceived? Does death provoke a transcendental state that leads to the liberation of our body/mind? If I was no longer sitting in the room, am I sitting in another room? How does a room/space define our existence? Is it the room that we contact with that establishes the state of our existence? If death was a free stream that a medium can never catch, how does one comprehend it? Is dying a residue of an impulse that decays into the unconscious? Where is an impulse from? Does impulse appears accordingly from the rooted but forgotten ancestral memory that accumulates through time? How does the impulse/unconscious sound affect life & death?

The narrative of this project is to explore the notions, relations, questions and metaphors about death, memory, the conscious/unconscious mind/body, space/the room, and electrical flow as altar-layered dimension of time with the occult and scientific play of sound, light, water and electricity as media of performance.

The project is explored and developed as an action-based performance under the artistic research of the subject of death as a transformation, during OUTSIDEININSIDEOUTINSIDEOUTOUTSDEIN _-𝖒(- 𝔲-)𝓵𝓽𝓲-𝕪𝕠(- 𝕦-)𝓾-𝓼-𝓶(- 𝓾-)𝖑𝖙𝖎- ̄  art & research laboratory in August 2021 at Gallery Torhaus Wehlen, Stadt Wehlen, Germany
